Just this second I got a telephone which went along these lines;
I am calling you because you have a problem with WINDOWS 10, my name is SAM COOPER and I see that in 2013 I dealt with your pc.
I told him if this call involved paying money out he should immediately forget it. He hung up.
Yesterday I accessed a company via a website called USETECH. The man introduced himself as GARY MARTIN. He took some details and then guided me through the process that involves WINDOWS 10/SETTINGS/RECOVERY/GOING BACK TO WIN7/GETTING STARTED.
Together we reached the same point as I had done on fifty occasions at least, where a pop up appears with TERMINATE THIS PROGRAMME AND LOTS OF NUMBERS. His analysis;
This is your fault you instigated a thorough clean up when Win 10 was downloading and now you have lost all your data on previous Win 7!
That I should tick a box that WARNS ME YOU LOSE ALL YOUR PRECIOUS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHS YOUR NOVEL YOUR CRUCIAL CONTACTS YOUR DOCUMENTS is beyond a joke and I don't like those kind of jokes that play about with your life and let's be honest and practical about this some people out there are at their wits end, I'm not far away, it just so happens I came upon this site and in a masochistic way it gave me hope.
He said, ' I can fix it but it will cost you £97 and if you go through MICROSOFT it will cost £140' and he added ' we are not a free service'!
He asked me questions such as; DID YOU SAVE SETTING? DID YOUR COMPUTER HAVE A GOOD CLEAN? He asserted that the trial 2015 version of AVG wasn't good enough! One can deduce from his questions that a good clean was essential in order for the WINDOWS 10 DOWNLOAD TO WORK.
I was naturally livid. He gave me the following number (0800-666-2744) saying this was MICROSOFT TECHNICAL SUPPORT. I rang the number a voice answered saying IS THIS YOUR WEBSITE OR NUMBER then hung up.
Today, Tuesday 25th August 2015 I have been on the phones for 4 hours, yes phones, a landline on my left ear and a mobile to my right ear all to know avail, 30 minutes listening in stereo to banal grating music is hard work.
I did manage to get onto the support/aos chat line but the technical agent cut me off.
I somehow got through to a MICROSOFT SOFTWARE AGENT who said I have come to the wrong number. I was so desperate to talk to someone I vomitted my feelings on her, I pleaded with her to stay on the line, she couldn't do anything but put me through top a tech advisor! I want action I said not apologies. She advised I can register a complaint, I did but whether this is listened to I doubt very much. I was on hold for 30 minutes then gave up the ghost.
I have made so many calls they seem to blur into one such has been the same repetitive spineless response, I pity the call operators they must be having a hard time while the whizz kids take the money and pass the buck.
Can you imagine it. This multi multi billion dollar company with all their money research equipment global staff attention to detail approach and several years of testing the product before rolling it out discovers it's an almighty unbelievable ****-up. I said to one tech adviser it needs putting into a big hole and burying forever.
You should write your experiences down, it's cathartic, 30 minutes ago I threatened to kill the dog, now, I'm calming down.
Another ms agent said it was my fault, that's about 6 in all who blame me. She said and this really knocked me back;
' We are unable to help you'.!!!! That was it MICROSOFT SUPPORT WHO DOWNLOADED THEIR JEWEL WINDOWS 10 ONTO MY MY COMPUTER ARE UNABLE TO HELP ME NOT ONLY THAT, THE REASON MY COMPUTER HAS BEEN SEEMINGLY DESTROYED IS BECAUSE I AM AT FAULT AND NOT MICROSOFT!
So that's it then. Tough, stop whining, bin your PC and buy a new one.
I do think it's vitally important customers like ourselves who have been treated with utter contempt and made to feel it is our fault
From my experience with Microsoft over the past 24 hours 20 spent attempting to rectify the problem, I have experienced a multitude of emotions see if you agree; anger, fear, desperation, frustration, annoyance, anguish, self-doubt and on top of that I have purposefully and deliberately been; stonewalled, ignored, patronised, blatantly lied to, misinformed. I have been made to feel that I am the prime suspect , bear in mind that MS will see this GLITCH as it was euphemistically described to me by a ms agent, as a potential court case and attempt to defend the catastrophe with all kinds of technical data, PLEASE READ THE SMALL PRINT. I've read a few disclosures, conditions and agreements circulating on MS websites REGARDING INSTALLATION Q & A ABOUT THE PRODUCT in order to see whether or not they MS have WARNED POTENTIAL WINDOWS 10 DOWNLOADERS OF THE CONSEQUENCES TO THE SAVING OF PRECIOUS DATA WILL BE COMPROMISED.
By this, I don't mean a tiny paragraph at the bottom of the page but a HUGE SIREN TYPE WARNING IN BLOOD RED BLOCK CAPITALS outlining in CLEAR LANGUAGE the results to your SETTINGS DATA SYSTEM call it what you will in downloading windows 10.

REGISTER A COMPLAINT THE MORE THAT DO THE MORE ACTION THEY WILL HAVE TO TAKE AND IT'S DOWN IN WRITING. Don't bother about getting through to technical advisor try another option say, software or billing.
You can try to chat to a MICROSOFT AGENT ONLINE through support.microsoft.com/aos if you're lucky.
Finally, I was told that they MICROSOFT couldn't access the internet because the previous windows 7 version had been erased and that the only way to re-activate the programme was to contact the manufacturers of your pc/laptop with your PRODUCT KEY which I found on the tower of my MEDION PC.
I called medion waited 30 minutes no answer perhaps they are experiencing the backlash also.
Let's hope and pray for a speedy and satisfactory solution.
